Is there anything in life that doesn't revolve around love? It's the subject of almost every pop song, play, book, film and every pub table conversation: it's our national obsession. And once a year we, as a society, decide to devote one day to it. An entire day in grimmest mid-winter, when every restaurant is full of couples who say things that they haven't said in ages. Things like "I love you", "you look amazing", or "shall we buy flowers from a member of the underclass".
Two weeks prior to this day, every attached person begins to worry about what they're going to do for the day. Two weeks after, every couple tries to subtly out-romance other couples with their stories of gifts and surprise trips. And for the whole month, every single person in the country is reminded that they are indeed single, and feels a strange urge to justify it.
But aren't we kidding ourselves with this obsessive pampering of love? Isn't it actually just as much fun being uninvolved? Could it be even more fun? There are the obvious clichés: not being nagged, not having to argue about which DVD to get out, not having to leave a party early because your other half is too wasted to stand, and so on. There's also the unmentionable and undeniable fact that being in a relationship where love is celebrated once a year might be far lonelier then being alone. Being reasonably happy and in control of your life is one universally attractive thing. Single, or involved, this should be the meaning of the 14th February.
This is why the launch of our fabulous weekly event is so exciting. For once there is a night for single people where the focus is not on shoving them into relationships. The focus is on simply having a good time: everyone is there to celebrate the fact that they are happy with their life and free to enjoy it with whoever they want. The events are held as an extra to our website, they are targeted at fun, interesting people of any persuasion. (That is you, by the way!)
We are celebrating love, not just for one night of the year but one night every week of the year. Join us and see where it takes you, and while you're waiting for the love of your life to arrive; have great nights out with your friends, buy yourself gifts, but most of all-love yourself!
